Day Six: PB + Rasberry Seedless Jam

Alrighty, it's day six...almost a week now and I am not even bored yet. The rasberry jam was quite tasty and will say that it is pretty much pure awesomeness when it comes to jam.

I didn't get a chance to post my +1 for yesterday...pretzels. Not too odd, right? The salty crunch added a nice texture to the mix and wouldn't mind trying it again but must admit that the combination was more forced than a willing choice. Let me explain:

I just recently relocated from Little Rock, AR and have been in limbo since the beginning of August. My wife, three kids and I were staying with my parents and it really was a good time! Now before the, "holy crap man, you lie!", comments start flying, I will readily admit that it was odd living at 'home' again (I think anytime you live with your parents, that counts as 'home'). But it really was a great time and was well worth the ribbing I received from my co-workers. Well, as of last week our stay was complete since we found a house and started the move to our new digs. It's a nice little house and funnily enough has a nice shade of beige on the walls that remind me of peanut butter (I swear, that creamy peanutiness sandwich ingredient never leaves my mind these days!) So to explain pretzels and peanut butter for yesterday's meal, I was forced due to the fact that we were/are still unpacking and I did not find any other suitable +1...although now that I think about it Lucky Charms doesn't sound -too- bad.

Since we have started the PB+1 Challenge, I have been thinking about what kind of sandwich combination I would come up with if I were still living in Arkansas. I imagine it would have some kind of southern twist, deep fried or perhaps with some kind of BBQ sauce...mmmm BBQ sauce. And since my sister and I are tackling this challenge together, I think I would fit in out there since people do stuff with their sisters in Arkansas all the time, albeit this is probably more socially acceptable than those found in Arkansas (I kid!!). Ok, truthfully, Arkansas is not like that at all... o.O

I hope everyone is still enjoying their PB and are experimenting a bit with some interesting +1's. Let us know what you have had and what works!

Carry on...

Day 5: PB + Banana AGAIN

Seriously, I think I found my favorite + item. I was craving it when I woke up this morning and couldn't resist stealing another one of my brother's banana's from his desk. Hey, it's his fault. He left them sitting out for me to steal.

I have to give PB + Banana a double thumbs up. It's a definite must try.

Day 4: PB + failure

I failed on day 4. I spent most of the day in the car driving back from my mountain bike adventure. Taco Bell was just too convenient and warm to resist.

*hangs head in shame*

Day 3: PB + actual Marshmallows

I spent the weekend mountain biking, so the PB+1 challenge was actually convenient. Simple, quick food.

My initial goal was to roast the marshmallows over the fire and then have a warm, PB + toasted marshmallow sandwich. However, after 8+ miles (3 of which were strictly up hill) the energy and time required to start a fire and roast marshmallows disappeared!

I can't say standard marshmallows are very good on a sandwich. In my imagination though, a warm, PB + toasted marshmallow is divine.

Day Two. PB+Banana

I woke with no notions of trying something brave or crazy for my +1 today. Call me a pansy, but I decided to play it safe with an old classic: PB+Banana. I must say, this is my favorite so far. It was perfection between two slices of bread.

A coworker of mine who was hesitant to join the fun of PB+1, came prepared with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich today! Granted he's a bit of a health nut (never mind his addiction to all things cookie), so his peanut butter was actually a healthy "peanut butter" imposter. He said it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either. Any tried other PB pretenders?

Since my goal is not to eat the same +1 twice during this challenge, I'll have to get more creative next week...

Day One. PB + Honey

The day didn't start out very promising. My two options for my +1 were pickles and black olives. I set the two options side by side on my desk and spent the better part of the morning trying to psych myself up for the consumption of one of them.

By 11 o'clock, I was pretty sure the +1 would be black olives. I started telling people that's what I was having. I thought saying it out loud and acting like it wouldn't be THAT bad would help the situation.

Paul and I started assembling our sandwiches around 11:30... I was searching for a can opener, when eating black olives and a peanut butter sandwich became very real to me. What would it taste like? The texture?

I suddenly became very non-psyched about my +1 options and was leaning heavily toward a double peanut butter sandwich. Thankfully, Paul kindly offered some of his honey as my +1.

*big sigh of relief*
